Joe Amos at Breakfast of ChampionsIt was an honor again to have Fisher Rushmer support and sponsor the Breakfast of Champions, an annual fundraiser for the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc (OCBA).  The fundraising event, held on November 8, 2018, was the 11th annual Breakfast of Champions, helping to raise support and awareness for those in need of legal assistance in our community but are unable to afford an attorney.

Our firm has supported the OCBA Legal Aid Society for over 35 years. Joe Amos, managing partner for Fisher Rushmer, had the pleasure of co-chairing the Breakfast of Champions event.

Donna Haynes, the Director of Development for the Legal Aid Society stated, “Joe Amos has served with Ana Tangel-Rodriguez as the Breakfast of Champions Co-Chairperson since 2013. During that time, donations and attendance increased, and have done so every year.

“In 2018, over 524 guests joined us at our signature fundraising event. As a result, we can do additional community work that helps our low-income neighbors in Orange County, Florida. Without leaders like Joe Amos and the Fisher Rushmer firm, the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association would not be able to do the life changing work we do."

Helping The Disadvantaged with Special Legal Needs

Fisher Rushmer attorneys are deeply involved in this great organization, helping low-income residents, the working poor, children, and disadvantaged groups with special legal needs in Orange County, Florida and its surrounding areas. Participating attorneys volunteer their time and services to the Legal Aid Society by accepting civil cases on a pro-bono basis.

Over 2000 clients are helped every year by the OCBA Legal Aid Society through its Pro Bono Programs, including the Guardian ad Litem Program (GAL). The GAL program helps children in juvenile court to have an attorney as their advocate looking out for the best interest of the child.

The GAL program has helped over 1300 children who are suspected to be victims of parental abuse, neglect, or abandonment. GAL attorneys create ongoing relationships with the children, representing them and advocating on their behalf for educational, economic, medical, or mental health services to help them gain a more stable environment. GAL attorneys also monitor the situation to ensure that court orders are carried out in a timely manner.

Help with Housing, Employment, Immigration, Public Benefits & Child Advocacy

Attorneys who volunteer with the Legal Aid Society, such as the attorneys at Fisher Rushmer, help in many different types of civil areas including housing, employment, immigration, public benefits, and child advocacy.

Our civil trial attorneys are proud to a part of the OCBA Legal Aid Society and serve as an ongoing sponsor of the Breakfast of Champions annual fundraiser.

It’s a privilege to be a part of such a noble organization, helping to serve the legal needs of people within our community who normally could not afford strong legal representation.
