Eric R. Elms, of Fisher Rushmer, P.A. in Orlando, and the co-chair of the Young Lawyers Division’s Practicing with Professionalism Committee, recently announced that the Practicing with Professionalism course is now available online. Previously, it was only offered in person.
Practicing with Professionalism is a course provided by The Florida Bar Young Lawyer’s Division that satisfies the Practicing with Professionalism requirement for new lawyers set forth by the Florida Supreme Court in Amendment to Rules Regulating the Florida Bar, Rule 6-12.1.
“After years of creating and planning, we have now gotten PWP online. We are glad to be able to provide this dynamic program to our constituents to help them understand why practicing with professionalism is a hallmark of our profession,” said Elms. “This makes The Florida Bar one of the first states to put a PWP program online.”
Within a year after being admitted to the Bar, all new members are required to take the PWP course. This course provides instruction on ethical and professional issues and fulfills a Basic Skills Requirement.
A few in-person classes are still available throughout the state but the online course is an alternative option for those who need the convenience of learning from their home or office, want to break the CLE into shorter segments or need a back-up when the in-person course is sold out.
“The decision to offer the PWP program online was more than just wanting to be on the forefront of technology,” said Elms. “This was what our constituents want from CLE programs: accessibility, affordability, and practicality. We listened and provided a top-notch program that’s also convenient.”
